People that take good care of their teeth can experience gum recession too.

It’s a dilemma for sure. You know to brush your teeth, but few people are taught to be gentle with brushing. Most people naturally think that the harder you brush your teeth, the cleaner they’re going to get. Unfortunately, the most common cause of gum recession in an otherwise healthy mouth is brushing too hard. Braces are also a common cause.

Pinhole Surgical Technique - Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during PST?

With this procedure, we can move gums down into their normal position without cutting or stitching. Dr Chang will swipe a surface topical numbing agent so you’ll feel virtually no pain, then create a tiny painless pinhole up above the gums. He’ll then reach through that pinhole with a special tool and gently dislodge the collagen up above and push it downward to the original gum line, restoring the beauty of your smile in as little as 20 minutes per tooth. He’ll then insert tiny collagen strips around the newly restored gum line and between the teeth to stabilize the work, preventing the gum line from slipping back to where it was. The collagen is used by your body to heal and restore gum tissues and keep everything in place, just like before the gum recession. Sounds incredibly simple? It is indeed simple, ingenious and patented. Dr Chang was the Phoenix Pioneer for this technique in 2014.

How long does PST take?

An entire row of teeth, Molar to Molar usually takes less than two hours. Individual teeth usually take about twenty minutes each. The effects are instant. You can see the results immediately afterward.

What about healing after PST?

The reason this procedure is becoming so popular is its non-invasive nature, which usually means ultra-fast recovery times. Most patients can eat normally the night of the procedure. Of course, we caution against certain stringy meats and foods that could get stuck below the gum line. If you avoid foods you know you’d have to floss to get from between your teeth, you’ll be fine. The Pinholes typically heal enough in 24 hours to begin eating normally.
